It sounds like it's a pretty big deal! With the banks locked and everything.
It probably didn't help that the stock market has been doing some crazy stuff lately, according to my boss-- who talks to me about it like I have any idea.
Heh, at my old job back East doing payment disbursements to subcontracters was a stupid amount of work. It sometimes took three weeks of effort to get Barrone Masonry to get us invoices / accept payment.
Someone drilled a post hole through the main fiberoptic cable over by Camas Valley around 7:30 am Thursday. It interrupted cell phones, long distance phone calls for Verizon and Qwest, ATMs, Oregon Trail cards, all banking, etc. etc. etc. The Mill Casino closed. We went to the bank and the doors were locked. They were only allowing one customer at a time into the bank. Some customers were threatening because they thought the banks were trying to keep them from getting their money because the stock markets around the world were crashing. When we talked with the bank manager, she said they were thinking of closing early because it was getting too scarey. There was a bit of mayhem for the entire south coast. It was not limited to Coos Bay.
